From Local Roots to Global Perspectives in Tourism:

From Experience to Words: My First Step in Writing About Tourism

Since I was a child, I could never sit still. Every time I went on a trip or an adventure, I was always eager to share stories, describing everything I saw and experienced. My passion for tourism wasn’t something that appeared out of nowhere; it grew steadily with every journey I took. That’s why, when it was time to further my studies, I chose to delve into the world of tourism by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Forestry, specializing in Parks and Recreation Management, at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This is where I was introduced to the concept of ecotourism — a perfect blend of my love for nature and the potential of responsible tourism.

After graduation, my first opportunity in the field came as a Research Assistant at UPM. During this time, I honed my skills in ecotourism and, more importantly, learned to understand the impact of tourism on the environment and how to ensure it remains sustainable and beneficial for local communities.

The next step in my journey brought me to the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), where I served as a Assistant Manager at Geopark Division. This role was truly eye-opening. At LADA, I had the chance to work across various aspects of tourism, from lively event management to developing unique tourism products, overseeing complex projects, fostering international relations focusing in Geopark, and managing tourism product. Each role I undertook offered me a broader perspective on how tourism, when managed wisely, can transform the economic and social landscapes of a destination.

Then, in 2022, I decided to advance my education by pursuing a Master’s in Tourism Management at Universiti Utara Malaysia. This was a turning point that reignited my passion for deepening my understanding of tourism, especially regarding sustainable tourism concepts. Here, I delved deeper into the subject, facing new challenges and opportunities in an ever-evolving tourism landscape.

Now, after nearly two decades in the tourism industry, I am honored to lead Langsura Geopark Sdn. Bhd. as its General Manager. This role has given me the platform to strategize and implement a vision for sustainable and competitive tourism. And now, the moment I’ve been eagerly anticipating has arrived — starting my blog! I want to share my insights and experiences from nearly 20 years in the tourism industry. This website is the medium I’ve chosen to express everything I’ve learned, and hopefully, it will inspire others who share the same passion.

I believe every experience and every journey — whether a success or a challenge — holds a valuable story to tell. What may seem ordinary to us might be extraordinary to someone else. So, let’s explore the world of tourism together with fresh perspectives and boundless enthusiasm because this world is far too vast not to be discovered.
